Surfing In Newquay
Newquay is a very special place for surfing, with dramatic cliffs, blue waters and a fantastic atmosphere. Newquay has become synonymous with surfing in the UK, and with a number of great surfing beaches it’s easy to see why.
What makes Newquay such a popular destination for surfers is the fact that there are so many other activities to enjoy when taking a break from the surf. When you talk about English surfing you instantly think about great surfing beaches such as Watergate Bay, Lusty Glaze Beach and Mawgan Porth Beach.
The world of surfing is divided into two kinds of people, those who know exactly how to surf and those who are about to start learning. With such an array of great surf schools, there isn’t a better place to learn than in Newquay.
Surfing is more than just a fancy balancing act while battling with strong waves, surfing is an icon of freedom. Talk to any surfing enthusiast and they will tell you that surfing feels like flying without wings. Water possesses a very unique attraction and any surfer, whether a newbie or pro, knows this the second they paddle out to water.
No British surfer can talk about surfing without touching upon Newquay’s importance in the sport. But it’s the waves and swells of the Cornish beaches that are the real superstars.
Newquay Surfing Beaches
Fistral Beach is possible the most well known beach in Newquay and is a world class surfing location. Fistral’s sandy beach is located away from all of the hustle and bustle of the Newquay town centre. A large beach on the north Cornwall coast, Fistral is the centre of the English surf scene.
Lusty Glaze Beach
Lusty Glaze beach is one of my favourite Newquay beaches and is a firm favourite with many English surfers. The beach is tucked away in a beautiful horseshoe shaped cove on the dramatic north coast of Cornwall just outside Newquay. There is also a surf school at this beach and a number of other adventure activities to enjoy.
Set against a beautiful background of cliffs, this beach is ideal for both experienced surfers and new surfers alike. Tolcarne is very popular with families and there are some amazing rock pools to explore when the sea is at low tide. The surf school on this beach offers both group and individual lessons for surfers of all skill levels.
