The making of a surf lodge
In October 2010 Matt, Simon & Will thought of an idea: to convert a disused former hotel in Newquay into a funky new surf lodge.
The once Trevone Hotel was to be become MOR. Chosen for its celtic connections MOR means sea in Cornish and Welsh and would be the title of a surf lodge like no other.
In the centre of Newquay MOR would attract surfing enthusiasts, stag and hens, families, long weekenders. The guys had visions of it being a bright and energetic place to get, experiencing and feeling MOR…
Skilled tradesmen from around the country worked hard around the clock to turn the dilapidated old hotel around in a matter of months, and although there were doubts towards the end…we made it! The opening date of the 15th July happened and we are officially open with some superb offers of surfing and coasteering lessons, homemade pizzas and crazy drinks promotions every night of the week.
Part of the design stage of the build called for a decision on the colour for the hotel. It took no time at all to come to a shade of blue and our iconic turqoise walls and bright orange sign works so well that MOR cannot be missed!
What has topped off our outside area perfectly is more than just a lick of paint…it is in fact hours of creative spray painting from an incredibly talented local artist. He goes by the name of Cosmic and his game is drawingonthings.com.
The brief was simply a beach scene and he came up with an incredible story on a wall: We have breaking waves, beginner surfers with a whopper of a board, frisbee playing adonis lifeguard, a buxom beauty, a quintessental Brit on holiday, seasoned local and loads more.
Its awesome, we love it! When you’re here take a look and get a picture inside that barrel!
